Love video games? Then you’ll love the show reel

The eclectic area of Computing at the University of Northampton has embedded within it the Games Programmes. Here are some details of their work.

Games Art
Video games fans who want to learn the practical skills to produce great-looking games can find just what they’re looking for at the University of Northampton.
The Games Art degree course focuses on the visual side of the industry, offering an introduction to the creative aspects of the gaming industry and covering key points in the creative process, from storyboarding to character and environment design.
Each year the work of Games Art students is compiled for a show reel – here’s the 2017 video for your enjoyment:

Team ET — Virtual Reality in Education: "Virtual Reality in Education
Virtual Reality has been tipped to make great strides in the technology industry over the last few years. Big names like Samsung, HTC, Google and Facebook have attached themselves to the tech, and released some pretty powerful kit.



Another growing field in VR is fieldtrips. With the improvement in graphical representations of landscapes and detail virtual reality fieldtrips are becoming more popular in education. They serve to prepare a person for a trip, re-cap details of a trip, or even replace the trip and give users the ability to visit areas they would not usually have the chance to. Dr Naomi Holmes (Sheffield Hallam), Dr Scott Turner (Northampton) and I conducted a small scale research project a couple of years ago in this field.

Computing Seminar: Web Sustainability


Description:
The presentation discusses two projects looking at the questions:
- What are some of the options for a publicly funded web resources when the money is no longer there to host it?
- What could you do if there is no money there in the first place? An example site is shown with this constraint.

Second International Symposium on Intelligent Informatics (ISI’13)

Scott Turner, a member of the Department of Computing and Immersive Technologies, recently acted as a member of the Technical Programme Committee for the forthcoming Second International
Symposium on Intelligent Informatics (ISI’13), August 23–24, 2013, Mysore, India.

Edited proceedings of the symposium are to be published as Vol. 235 of Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing published by Springer.
